Green Beach Access Stairway
Waterfront properties can present unique access challenges, especially when steep terrain, riprap, and shoreline conditions stand between the property and the water.
THE CHALLENGE
Accessing the beach at this waterfront property required navigating an area protected by riprap. A new stairway needed to work with the existing shoreline conditions while providing a dependable path from the property to the beach.
Rather than altering the shoreline protection already in place, the project called for a construction approach that could accommodate the riprap and surrounding terrain.
OUR SOLUTION
The DFR Services team constructed a new beach access stairway over the existing riprap.
To support the structure, our team installed piles and built the stairway above the shoreline protection. This approach allowed the new access system to work with the existing waterfront conditions while creating a dedicated route to the beach.
The result is a purpose-built structure that combines practical waterfront access with the durability required for a Northern Michigan shoreline.

The completed stairway provides the property with improved access to the beach while working within the challenges of the existing shoreline. By using pile-supported construction, DFR Services was able to create a functional waterfront feature without relying on the riprap itself for structural support.
